Hi, I’m Talon.
I’m an R&D engineer at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub in San Francisco.
I received my Ph.D. from the University of Chicago’s Graduate Program in Medical Physics in 2020 where I developed spatio-angular microscopes with Patrick La Rivière, Rudolf Oldenbourg, and Hari Shroff.
I graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2015 with a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Physics.
I grew up in a family of apiarists: my parents operate Scandia Honey in Southern Alberta, my sister sells honey in Toronto, and my aunt and uncle operate Jane’s Honey Bees in the Vancouver area. In my spare time I mostly read and run.
2022-03-14: I’ve moved to San Francisco and joined Shalin Mehta’s group at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub.
2021-11-27: I’ve departed Sabrina Leslie’s lab, and I’m interviewing for research positions starting mid 2022.
2021-01-04: I’ve moved to Vancouver to join Sabrina Leslie’s Lab at the University of British Columbia.
2020-09-01: I’ve completed my Ph.D., and I’ve posted my dissertation (21 MB). I’ll be finishing my projects in Chicago while I interview.
2020-08-31: Our paper on angular diffusion in spatio-angular fluorescence microscopy appeared online.
2020-01-24: I’ve posted a preprint on angular diffusion in spatio-angular fluorescence microscopy with Hari Shroff, Rudolf Oldenbourg, and Patrick La Rivière.
2019-06-24: I’m presenting a talk titled “Multipole spatio-angular fluorescence microscopy” at the Optics Society of America Imaging and Applied Optics Conference in Munich, Germany this week.
2019-05-01: I’m attending Frontiers in Imaging Science at Janelia Research Campus. I’ll be presenting a poster titled “Spatio-angular fluorescence imaging with a polarized-illumination light-sheet dual-view microscope”.
2019-04-15: I’m presenting a talk titled “Spatio-angular fluorescence imaging with a polarized-illumination light-sheet dual-view microscope” at Focus on Microscopy (FOM) in London, UK.
2019-01-12: I’ve posted a pair of preprints on spatio-angular fluorescence microscopy with Hari Shroff, Rudolf Oldenbourg, and Patrick La Rivière. Part 1 and Part 2.
2018-11-26: I’ll be participating in an NSF workshop titled Enabling Biological Discovery through Innovations in Imaging and Computation in Woods Hole, MA.
2018-09-01: I’ve moved back to Chicago from Woods Hole.
